Hyakkō: 100+ Makers from Japan
This is an impressive exhibition currently showing at Japan House London. Focussing on the work of over 100 contemporary makers, it showcases a vast collection of work in clay, glass, wood, leather, metal and bamboo. Working with these materials these artisans evoke a particularly Japanese aesthetic that embraces elegance, simplicity and a quiet beauty in everyday objects, often reflecting the local environments in which they have been created. Beautiful and delicate porcelain tea sets and bowls, lacquered trays and boxes, wooden vessels and cutlery, bamboo baskets, leatherware and exquisite glassware are all displayed together to capture the marriage of form and function in these stunning works.
On now until 10 May 2026 this exhibition is highly recommended for anyone interested in contemporary craft.
