WHO ARE THE FRIENDS OF PSAD?
Ah, Friends! Such a lovely word isn’t it? It suggests warmth, companionship, maybe even a nice cup of tea. But in this case, The Friends are not just people who nod politely in the corridor and say “Oh, I like your sculpture – very abstract, is it a dog?”
NO! The Friends is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers to support and enhance the creative life of the Putney School of Art and Design and its community – a publicly funded art school.
SO WHY DOES THE SCHOOL NEED THE FRIENDS?
WELL, since 2010, arts funding in the UK has been slashed by 48%. FORTY-EIGHT PERCENT! That’s nearly half. Imagine going to a restaurant, ordering a full English breakfast, and getting no egg, half a sausage, a teaspoon of beans, and a single mushroom looking up at you like, this is all that remains of the arts budget.
SO WHAT DO WE DO?
We step in like superheroes – but with tote bags – to raise money. We organise lectures, masterclasses, selling exhibitions, community events and support student bursaries.
Most importantly, the money we raise is used to purchase additional equipment for the many courses run by the school.
SO PLEASE JOIN US
Support the school, enhance your classes and bask in the glory of knowing you’ve done something good.
