Please be informed that the 3D Campus in Disraeli Road presently has no disabled access to upper floor – for Landscape Workshop. We are sorry for that. This is being addressed by the school.

Shaun Carey – Landscapes

We are delighted that Shaun Carey, artist and popular tutor will be running the next Friends workshop. Using landscape as a starting point he will demonstrate, as well as referencing various artists, the versatility of pastel, guiding each student to explore the expressive possibilities of the medium. Students will be encouraged to develop a greater understanding of the ‘feeling for’ a subject that pastel can offer, through both painterly and graphic effects. A materials list will be sent prior to the course. See more about Shaun and his way of art working and teaching Here.

Rachel Wood – Ceramics

A contemporary, award winning ceramicist, Rachel will be showing us how she achieves the beautiful, multi-layered vessels for which she is known. Having completed a BA Honours degree in Ceramics in 1999 at Loughborough College of Art and Design, Rachel has gone on to develop an international reputation which led to her winning two major awards; the coveted Neue Keramik Award in Germany in 2016 and the Diessen Ceramic Prize, Germany in 2017.

Rachel’s ceramics are noted for their beautiful, complex surfaces which are created by building up layer upon layer of slips and glazes onto the clay so that the finished vessels echo a sense of a subtly textured landscape. A highly-skilled practitioner, Rachel has been running workshops since 2001 both in the UK and Europe and Australia and we are delighted that she has agreed to run a workshop for us at PSAD. This will include a demonstration, some technical talk and an insight into her methods and philosophy. Of course, this is also an opportunity for students to try out Rachel’s methods under her expert guidance.

You can see Rachel’s recent work at the Contemporary Ceramics Centre in Great Russell Street, where she is exhibiting from 2 – 25 March 2023. Link here.
