Here are few photographs by the group of artists and PSAD students who visited the iconic Aberystwyth International Ceramics Festival 2023, held from Friday 30 June 2023 to Sunday 2 July 2023 at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre.

Review by Clare Frankl Bertram, PSAD Friends trustee and chairman

Thirty PSAD potters, both staff and students, flocked to Aberystwyth again this year to attend the International Ceramic Festival. It was with great excitement and enthusiasm that we all made the long journey again, after the normal two yearly cycle had been disrupted by Covid.
The Festival celebrates the many faces of ceramics and is attended by over eight hundred people from all over the world. Demonstrations, lectures and exhibitions from notable professionals makers, got us all buzzing with ideas. Followed by face to face time with the makers in their tented studios. The shared friendship and generosity in the pottery world was fully on display.
The School got a surprise bit of promotion when Jane Hamlyn was presented with the Potterycrafts Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is presented to a potter or ceramist who has done much to promote the ceramic arts during their life. Jane told a packed lecture theatre about how her love of pottery was established at evening classes at Putney 50 years ago, with the School logo displayed on a giant screen for all to see!
Neither lumpy beds in student rooms nor train delays can diminish the pleasure of this Festival. Coming home with new ideas, new tools and firmly cemented friendships with colleagues from Putney will have us all going back again in two years time.
