One of the youngest London creative quarters, Kings Cross, is exhibiting an art piece by one of the youngest American artists, Tschabalala Self, who lives and works in New York’s Tri-State area.
‘Tschabalala Self’s bronze sculpture Seated is her first public art piece, it explores the significance of taking up space and taking a seat. The sculpture will be installed on the Kings Cross Estate, the northern gateway to Coal Drops Yard on Lewis Cubitt Square and will be accompanied by online and offline programming that will showcase Self’s practice which explores the emotional, physical and psychological impact of the Black female body as icon.
To accompany this exhibition, Avanti Arte will also release two editions encompassing 25 bronze sculptures and 12 silkscreen prints.
There will be another solo exhibition by her work at Pilar Corrias, entitled Home Body, across its Savile Row and Eastcastle Street galleries from 6 October to 17 December 2022, with an accompanying gallery and pop-up shop delving further into Self’s work on the upper level in Coal Drops Yard until Sunday 17th October.’
